While many people can take the role of an amateur DJ with the plethora of electronics devices that have emerged over the past few years, it goes without sating that there is a big difference between someone automatically playing a playlist and a professional DJ who is equipped with high-end, innovative equipment. A DJ armed with such products can effectively select, mix, and build up the music at a party or club to the max. By using equipment such as turntables, music players, mixers, headphones, amplifiers and other audio visual equipment, the DJ can create an electric atmosphere that is perfect for the occasion.

Here are five parts of dj equipment that every DJ must own.

Music Player

Back in the day, DJs were restricted to using only analog vinyl players as their main means of sourcing their music, as well as mixing the songs they wanted. While many DJs continue to use such players, modern DJs have access to other options, including digital music players for their music source. As digital technology continues to take over the world, DJs can now carry a multitude of music in libraries that would have traditionally taken up entire rooms. Nowadays, DJs can source their music from portable music players, laptops, CD players and MP3 players.

Mixer

Hands down, what separates an average DJ from a superb one is their ability to mix songs properly. A DJ who wants their music to flow seamlessly absolutely needs to have access to a mixer to graduate from one song to the next without effort, and without the audience even noticing the transition. The mixer allows the DJ to blend music together without any disruptions or pauses in between songs.

Headphones

This is yet another must-have for DJs who wish to make a huge impact at their event. The headphones allow the DJ to hear the music being played so that they can plan the next song appropriately, and set the music to the proper level before crossfading it into the next song. Isolated headphones are important, as they don’t require harmful volume levels to be heard.

Speakers

While many times the venue that a DJ will be playing at will typically have its own set of speakers installed, DJs may also want to consider investing in their own for venues in which such equipment is not available. In addition, speaker stands and cables should accompany this equipment to allow the speakers to be plugged in properly, and adequately boosted so they are not sitting on the ground or directly on the stage floor.

Amplifier

An amplifier takes the music from the music source and delivers it to the speakers so that the music can be effectively heard by the audience. This piece of equipment essentially amplifies the signal coming from the mixer and sends it to the speakers. Passive speakers cannot be run without an amplifier, so in this case, amplifiers are crucial. Active speakers, on the there hand, have amplifiers built into them, so a separate amp may not be necessary.

Cases and Gig Bags

A lot of travelling is typically involved in the work of a busy DJ. As such, it’s helpful to have protective cases and gig bags that allow DJs to transport their equipment carefully to keep it in good working condition. Professional DJs may find it worth their money to invest in such cases and bags to carry their expensive equipment from one venue to the next.
